Man Utd among quartet eyeing Arsenal star reaching ‘break-point’

An Arsenal star on course to leave the Emirates this summer has been linked with a quartet of Premier League sides after coming to a realisation about his career.

Arsenal are in the midst of a huge fight to secure Champions League football next season. Achieving the feat through the league will be a tall order. But hopes remain high of lifting the Europa League and booking their ticket that way.

Much of the Gunners’ summer transfer plans could hinge on securing the financial riches Europe’s elite competition provides.

Mikel Arteta’s side have been heavily linked with a permanent deal for the impressive Martin Odegaard. Major acquisitions beyond that, however, may first requires exits.

One player who could generate significant funds is Ainsley Maitland-Niles.

The 23-year-old is currently plying his trade with West Brom on loan, though the Baggies appear unlikely to beat the drop.

Rather than return to Arsenal and get lost in the shuffle, the Telegraph report ‘this summer is accepted as the natural break-point.’ The player himself hinted as such with a ‘rotting away’ jibe in March.

Capable of playing in midfield or at full-back, Maitland-Niles will be an attractive prospect due to his versatility.

The academy graduate has two years remaining on his current deal, but the report indicates there are no plans for an extension.

Wolves, Leicester and Southampton are all credited with interest, but the most eye-catching name is Man Utd.

Maitland-Niles would prefer to play in midfield, but has apparently come to the realisation that most ‘Premier League clubs see him as a right-back.’

The Red Devils are described as ‘looking at strengthening’ in the position behind Aaron Wan-Bissaka in the summer.

Wolves were previously linked with a £20m move late into the summer window. A fee in that region is expected to be required to bring his Arsenal stint to a close.

Reiss Nelson TEAMtalk

Meanwhile, Reiss Nelson is attracting interest from Olympiacos amid doubts over his Arsenal future, a report claims.

Nelson is an Arsenal academy graduate who made his senior debut for the club in 2017. Since then, he has struggled to break through on a regular basis. He spent the 2018-19 season out on loan and has struggled for opportunities back at the Emirates Stadium since.

Now, Nelson may be considering his future again. According to Football.London, one option would be to go on loan to Greece.

Olympiacos are showing an interest in the youngster, it is claimed. Nelson did not play against them when the two sides recently met in the Europa League, but they have apparently been observing him since last summer.

Having already taken Sokratis Papastathopoulos off Arsenal’s hands, they could now return with an offer for another of their fringe players. But they only want to take Nelson on loan, rather than permanently.
