“I hit the ball 100%”: Granit Xhaka hits back at red card versus Manchester City

Xhaka sees read in Arsenal hammering

Arsenal were on the end of a 5-0 thrashing at the hands of Premier League champions Manchester City, which condemned them to 20th place heading into the international break.

Out of the game at 2-0, they were nevertheless further hamstrung when Granit Xhaka saw red midway through the first half.

Of course, Xhaka has a history of disciplinary issues for the Gunners, having been sent off on four occasions in his 164 Premier League appearances.

However, there were allegations that he had thrown in the towel early, and therefore decided to get sent off.

Xhaka has his say on his red card

Speaking on international duty with Switzerland, Arsenal’s former club captain had his say on the incident, saying:

“About the red card: brutally surprising! With the PL people often talk about English toughness. I hit the ball 100% & got a red. The pictures weren’t checked by the VAR. I’ve seen tougher tackles that weren’t even assessed as a foul.”

When further questioned about his time at Arsenal, Xhaka also revealed the impact of his new contract, claiming:

“The extension of the contract gave me another push. I consider myself lucky with it – besides, I’m healthy, which is the most important thing in the end.”
