Dhanda starts; Cooper benches Ayew in 4 changes: Predicted Swansea XI vs Birmingham – opinion

Swansea City return to Championship action on Friday night as they take on strugglers Birmingham City away from home, with Steve Cooper’s side looking to get their promotion bid back on track.

The Swans suffered back-to-back defeats against Bournemouth and rivals Cardiff City before the international break and currently sit in third place in the Championship, six points behind Watford just ahead of them.

However, Cooper’s side have a favourable run between now and the end of the season and will need to target three points against Lee Bowyer’s men at St Andrew’s on Friday night if they are to achieve their automatic promotion ambitions this season.

Cooper does have some injury problems to contend with, whilst some of his players have been heavily involved during the international break, so changes are expected for the game against Birmingham.

Here’s how Football FanCast expects Cooper to line up, with four changes from the side which started against Cardiff last time out…

Cooper is likely to keep his faith in Freddie Woodman, although the on-loan Newcastle United man has made a few mistakes of late.

There is one change in the back three, as Ben Cabango replaces Marc Guehi – the on-loan Chelsea man having featured at the European Under-21 Championships with England in the past two weeks – with Cooper admitting that he would have to travel straight to Birmingham to meet up with the squad, thus leaving him little time to prepare.

Conor Hourihane seems unlikely to be fit after suffering an injury against Cardiff, so Korey Smith replaces him in midfield, whilst Yan Dhanda comes in for Jay Fulton to provide some creativity.

Morgan Whittaker continues up front, although Andre Ayew could be a serious doubt for the game after picking up a knock with Ghana, so Jamal Lowe may partner the 20-year-old in attack, and hopefully he can find his shooting boots for Swansea after scoring for Jamaica in the international break.
