A report from Belgium has credited Arsenal with an interest in Anderlecht midfielder, Sambi Lokonga.
Who is Sambi Lokonga?
Sambi Lokonga has spent all of his career to date honing his craft in the Belgian top-flight with RSC Anderlecht.
Despite only being 21, the midfielder has already begun to cement himself as a key figure in Anderlecht’s side.
All told, the Belgium under-21 international has notched 78 appearances for his club, in which he has scored three and assisted seven.
His maturity at such as young age also saw Lokonga named Anderlecht captain throughout much of the second half of the 2020/21 campaign.
Arsenal linked with Anderlecht midfielder Albert Sambi Lokonga
Now, Lokonga appears to be attracting interest from a Premier League side.
As mentioned above, Arsenal have been linked with the midfielder recently.
According to Belgian outlet Nieuwsblad, a number of English clubs are following Lokonga, but it is Arsenal who are following him most intensely.
Lokonga’s current contract only runs until 2023, and his lack of caps for Belgium’s senior team – currently sitting at zero – has Nieuwsblad suggesting that Lokonga could be available for a fairly low fee:
Anderlecht hopes for the jackpot, but Lokonga has no caps for the national team yet and with 3 goals and 2 assists his stats were also meager. He mainly played as a defensive midfielder. A transfer price of 15 to 20 million seems the most feasible.
Arsenal have also been linked with Brighton’s Yves Bissouma, who plays a similar role to Lokonga.
However, reports of a £40m price-tag for Bissouma would seemingly make Lokonga a much more affordable option.
The main issue with signing the Anderlecht man over Bissouma, though, is of course that he is unproven in the Premier League.
