West Ham in talks with Euro giants to sign 24-yr-old, player will cost £13.7m – originally posted on Sportslens.com
West Ham United are interested in signing Junior Firpo from Barcelona this summer.
According to Spanish publication Sport, the Londoners have held talks with the Spanish club regarding the summer transfer and Barcelona are prepared to offload him this summer.
Barcelona need to sell some of their fringe players in order to fund their own transfer business and the 24-year-old left-back is on the chopping block.
The report further states that the Spanish club would demand a fee of around €16 million (£13.7m) for the left-back and it will be interesting to see if the Hammers are willing to pay the asking price for him.
SL View: Firpo needs more game time and West Ham move could be ideal
The 24-year-old has struggled to get regular game time at Barcelona and he needs to leave the club in order to play more often.
The defender has made just 24 appearances for Barcelona in La Liga over the past two seasons and West Ham could provide him with more first-team opportunities.
The Hammers currently have Aaron Cresswell as their starting left-back and Firpo has the talent to be an upgrade on him.
The player is likely to be tempted to join the Premier League side if the Hammers come forward with a concrete offer in the coming weeks.
The 24-year-old left-back has the talent to develop into a top-quality player and regular football at the London club could help him achieve his potential.
