Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta believes that midfielder Thomas Partey can “transform” Arsenal in the second half of the season.
The Ghana international is currently on the sidelines with the recurrence of a thigh problem.
After supposedly recovering from his initial setback, the issue returned in the 2-0 defeat to Tottenham.
The 27-year-old put in some promising displays before his lay-off. Indeed, the Gunners had high hopes about the player when opting to trigger his £45million release clause in October.
Speaking after his side’s 4-0 win over West Brom, Arteta said that Partey continues to train and could return soon.
“He brings something different to the team, he’s a player with an enormous talent. But as well someone that can transform the team the way we want.
“It’s great if we can have him, keep him healthy and I think he will contribute in a really positive way. He’s done the most part training the last few days.
“He’s feeling good and we will assess him. He needs another two or three good sessions to see if he’s 100 per cent OK to play. And if that’s the case, great news for us.”
Partey may return as Arsenal continue their upturn in form. After going seven games without a win, the Gunners have won three in a row over the festive period.
What’s more, their 1-0 win over Brighton was their second clean sheet in that run.
Arteta warns ‘understanding’ emerging
Meanwhile, Arteta has also said that his side’s win over the Baggies showed the endless attacking possibilities for his team if they can continue with their form.
Arsenal were relentless against Sam Allardyce’s men, with Bukayo Saka’s goal the product of a fine team move.
And Arteta has warned his opposition that he is beginning to get excited about the prospect of his side’s spell continuing.
