With the Euro 2020 just over a month away, Hungary look to enter the competition in probably the most difficult group in the entire competition. They take on Germany, France and Portugal in the group stages with a little to no chance to qualify through the group.
Despite beating The 2018 FIFA World Cup finalists Croatia in qualifying, Hungary finished second to last in a group of five. Despite of which they made the play-offs via the Nations League. As co-hosts, they will play two of their group-stage matches at the Puskas Arena in Budapest.
Italian Coach Marco Rossi has a long list of experienced players to pick from. He has nominated 28 players throughout the qualifiers and Nations League and is likely to pick his 26 man squad from the above mentioned 28 players.
Adam Szalai would be the obvious driving force of the team, with the captain playing as a forward being the focal point of the team. Another player who would be key to Rossi would be Dominik Szoboszlai, the Salsburg player won the Player of the Year in the Austrian Bundesliga last season.
Lepizig Goalkeeper Peter Gulacsi alongside Bristol City’s dynamic Midfielder Adam Nagy would also be on the top of the list for Marco Rossi.

In 2018, Rossi was first announced as the new manager of the National team of Hungary. He replaced Georges Leekens. Only one day before the national team’s decisive Euro 2020 qualifiers play-off match against Iceland.
Marco Rossi, the former Honved coach, uses the same 3-5-2 formation that assisted him in winning the Hungarian title in 2017. Under quarantine for the play-off against Iceland, he passed his instructions to his assistant, Cosimo Inguscio, from home.
The Italian coach instructs disciplined defensive midfielder Adam Nagy to control play in front of the defence, hardly venturing into the final third, allowing Dominik Szoboszlai to step into the limelight with a free role, while Filip Holender breaks on the left.
Peter Gulasci has been Leipzigs and Hungary’s Number 1 for quite sometime now and he proves it time and time again.
In May 2008,The former Liverpool man received his maiden call up for his nation, Hungary. He was an unused substitute in their 1–1 draw with Croatia. Gulácsi was Hungary’s unsung hero against the Czech Republic in The FIFA U-20 World Cup during the penalty shootouts. During the third place match between Hungary and Costa Rica at 2009 FIFA U-20 World Cup, Gulacsi saved a massive three penalties during an intense penalty shoot-out leading his team to victory and bronze medals.
On 4 June 2012, he was finally invited by Sándor Egervári to the Hungary squad for a match against the Republic of Ireland, but did not play.Peter Gulácsi finally made his long awaited debut for the senior team on 22 May in 2014 in a 2–2 stalemate against Denmark.
Joining his father’s team of Videoton when he was merely six years old, Dominik Szoboszlai moved from MTK to Red Bull nursery team Liefering in 2016. Now as essential to the national side as to the Redbull Salzburg, Szoboszlai is looking at a big-league transfer – and playing before a home crowd this summer.
In the game against Iceland, The clock at Budapest’s Puskas Arena was ticking towards extra-time when 20 year old attacking midfielder, Dominik Szoboszlai collected the ball in his own half. Szosboszlai finally scored the winner after Hunagry trailed the entire game. Dominik is probably one of the best player to ever come out of Hungary since Puscas. The teenager would undoubtedly be the talisman for Hungary at Euro 2020.
CHANCES AND RECORD
There is a 10000/10 chance that Hungary could win the Euro 2020. It means they are the least favorites to win the tournament.
Hungary have been drawn into the group of death. If they end up qualifying it would be nothing short of a miracle. With Germany, France and Portugal in their group, it will for sure not be the easiest Euro’s for them.
