Chelsea could swoop in for a Serie A midfielder linked with a swap deal to Man Utd that would leave the latter’s transfer plans in tatters, claims a report.
Chelsea were the Premier League’s biggest spenders last summer, parting ways with almost £250 million. After a sluggish start, many of their new acquisitions have begun to show their best after a managerial change saw Thomas Tuchel drafted in.
A busy summer is expected for both the Blues and Man Utd. A tussle between the two and several of Europe’s elite over Erling Haaland could produce fireworks.
However, according to the Daily Express, the pair could lock horns over another player.
Juventus midfielder Rabiot, 26, has failed to hit the heights he reached with PSG since moving to Turin.
With a significant player overhaul expected amid a poor season under Andrea Pirlo, Rabiot’s days in Serie A could be numbered.
Van de Beek’s first season at Old Trafford has been anything but ideal. Rumours of a tactical switch to get the best from him have since swirled. Nevertheless, a quick exit remains a possibility.
However, Chelsea will reportedly look to sign Rabiot outright themselves with Tuchel wishing to ‘strengthen his midfield options.’
Such a move would scupper Man Utd’s swap plans and leave Van de Beek in the lurch once more.
Moyes admission offers Man Utd, Chelsea transfer hope
Meanwhile, Man Utd and Chelsea have been handed transfer hope after David Moyes admitted West Ham would “consider” bids for a bank-breaking pair.
West Ham are in the midst of one of their finest Premier League season ever. The club are in the mix for a Champions League position. Even if they fall short, a spot in the Europa League would represent huge progress.
Chelsea have been persistently linked with a blockbuster move for the holding midfielder who could potentially be seen as a long-term N’Golo Kante replacement.
Man Utd have also been credited with interest after two key club figures agreed with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer regarding the player.
Soucek, meanwhile, is one of the league’s most deadly aerial threats and marshals the midfield with ease. The Czech Republic international has attracted the attentions of Man Utd, though their hopes were seemingly dashed in March.
Now, Moyes has opened the door to the pair’s potential exits, though his comments suggest a departure will not come cheap.
“Yes, any club can make offers for players but we’ve not had any big offers,” Moyes said (via the Mirror).
“I hope we don’t get any but if we do, like any other club, we would consider them.
“I don’t know where the Bank of England is for Tomas Soucek but I’ve said with Declan, it would take the Bank of England and the Royal Bank of Scotland to get him.
“It will have to be the Bank of Czech as well for Tomas!”
