Former Arsenal defender Tony Adams has claimed that Mohamed Salah put in a “poor” performance during Liverpool’s 3-0 win over Arsenal.
The Reds returned from the international break in style on Saturday by picking up their third win in a row. Salah slotted past Gunners goalkeeper Bernd Leno, either side of Diogo Jota’s brace. Furthermore, three clean sheets in a row will be a welcome sight for a much-troubled Liverpool defence this season.
Amid a slump across the board at Liverpool, though, Salah’s form has remained arguably the one constant.
The Egypt international netted his 18th Premier League goal of the season on Saturday. What’s more, that took his tally for the season to 26 goals in all competitions.
According to Adams, though, Salah could have performed much better at the Emirates Stadium.
“I thought he was poor today,” the pundit told Stadium Astro.
“He could have had seven. His finishing, it was one-on-one a few times, and he could have had four or five today with a little bit more cutting edge.
“He missed a few chances in he first half. He wasn’t really on it.”
Liverpool dominated throughout but struggled to create clear-cut chances in a goalless first half.
However, Jota’s introduction in the second half changed the game.
The 23-year-old, who scored three times for Portugal during the international break, put the visitors in front with a header from Trent Alexander-Arnold’s cross.
Jota then arrived late to a ball across the box and smashed home to make it 3-0.
Klopp happy with Liverpool dominance
Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp hailed his side’s dominance to keep Arsenal at bay.
He said: “As a package it was a good performance. We finished our situations off.
“Arsenal were not really in the game for the whole 95 minutes. That was down to us.
“We had to keep going and keep the momentum. We had to be careful with it and treat it well.
“I wasn’t frustrated at half-time. We had to work hard and when you do that you have a good chance of winning.
“We’re obviously not in dreamland this year. When people talk about you in the wrong way, you want to react. It was a sensational cross by Trent [Alexander-Arnold] for the goal.”
