Atletico Madrid eye Bellerin as potential Trippier replacement

Atletico Madrid are considering a move for Arsenal right-back Hector Bellerin, as a potential replacement for Kieran Trippier.

Trippier has been linked with a return to the Premier League in recent weeks with Manchester United understood to be keen on signing the defender, who moved to Atletico from Tottenham in a £20m deal two seasons ago.

The England international has impressed since making the move to Spain and formed part of the side that won La Liga this season, and while the 30-year-old is said to be ‘happy’ in Spain, Spanish outlet Marca says that an exit ‘cannot be ruled out’ with the defenders family still living in England.

Everton have also been linked with an interest in Trippier, and according to the report, Atletico are eyeing a move for Bellerin as a potential replacement with the defender keen on a new challenge this summer after spending a decade at the Emirates.

Bellerin found himself out of favour towards the end of the 2020/21 campaign and could be interested in a return to Spain in a bid to boost his international aspirations.

The 26-year-old has won four senior caps for La Roja, though only one of those has come since 2016 and a return to La Liga for the former Barcelona academy graduate will likely move him closer to the forefront of Luis Enrique’s thoughts.

Bellerin has won three FA Cups and made 239 appearances for Arsenal in all competitions, though is one of a number of senior players who will be permitted to leave in a bid to raise funds, should suitable offers arrive.

Marca say that the Spanish champions would also be willing to offer Trippier in ‘exchange’ for the Arsenal full-back, although whether the Englishman would be prepared to move to the Emirates is a different matter
