Chris Richards has impressed Bayern Munich manager Hansi Flick over the past season-and-a-half and was rewarded with his first Bundesliga start on Sunday.
The former FC Dallas product was named in Flick’s starting lineup for Bayern’s league clash with Hertha Berlin. It was Richards second appearance for Bayern this week after playing the final 14 minutes of Wednesday’s 3-2 German Super Cup win over Borussia Dortmund.

Richards, 20, made his Bundesliga debut back on June 20th in Bayern’s eventual 3-1 win over Freiburg last season. He also featured on opening day of this season, playing the final 17 minutes of Bayern’s 8-0 thumping of Schalke at the Allianz Arena.
Despite several seasoned veterans in Bayern’s backline, Richards was praised by Flick last week ahead of the match vs. Dortmund.
“Richards absolutely deserves the minutes he has got,” Flick said Tuesday.
“The young players have to learn something new every day. Chris has very good qualities. He’s strong in the direct duels, has pace and is strong in the air.”
The U.S. Men’s National Team prospect will look to cap his first start with a victory at home this afternoon.
