Thiago Silva’s Chelsea career to date
Thiago Silva made the move from PSG to Chelsea 14 months ago as a free agent, and has gone on to become a key figure in the dressing room and on the pitch.
Now 37 years old, he does not play every game, but has made 5 appearances in the Premier League this season, and has featured in both of their Champions League ties this campaign.
Off the pitch too, his experience feels vital, and perhaps is a contributing factor to the leaps in form of Antonio Rudiger and Andreas Christensen.
Thiago Silva to miss Brentford clash
However, the Brazilian is set to miss Chelsea’s next clash, against high-flying Brentford, due to international duty. Thomas Tuchel explained why, revealing:
‘He will go and then he will play for Brazil, and then he will come back on the match day versus Brentford.
‘This is the life of international breaks in 2021. Like it or not, what can I do?
‘He’s our player and he arrives on the match day back from a country where he then needs to do quarantine. Is this a good solution for us as a club? No, but we cannot hold him back. It’s impossible.
‘If they call him, he needs to go, otherwise he gets suspended by FIFA. So there is no choice. You simply have to live with it.’
Silva will definitely not be the only man to miss more games due to quarantine rules now that players are allowed to represent red-list countries in the coming weeks.
With Ederson and Alisson both travelling to represent Brazil too, will they also miss key games?
