Aston Villa on alert as Max Allegri confirms Aaron Ramsey is leaving Juventus

Massimiliano Allegri has offered the strongest hint yet that Aaron Ramsey could return to the Premier League this month by saying the Wales midfielder is an “outgoing player” at Juventus.

Ramsey has been linked with former club Arsenal, Everton and Newcastle. While reports on Tuesday said Burnley had seen a formal approach for the 31-year-old turned down by the player. But his exit from Turin seems increasingly likely during January.

And Allegri confirmed in a press conference on Wednesday that the former Arsenal man was leaving.

“Aaron Ramsey returned today after his leave to work in England, but he is an outgoing player,” Allegri said.

Ramsey joined Juve on a free transfer from Arsenal in the summer of 2019, earning a reported £400,000 a week, and collected a Serie A winners’ medal in his first season.

But he has struggled to nail down a regular place in the side. He has been hampered by a series of injuries and remains one game short of his 50th Serie A appearance.

Ramsey has been on the pitch for less than 100 minutes of league action this term and Juve would be keen to get at least a portion of his considerable wages off the books.

Sky Sport Italia transfer expert Gianluca Di Marzio says Burnley made a formal offer that Ramsey rejected outright.

Di Marzio says the 31-year wants to return to England to join a club with more ambitions.

Newcastle not in Ramsey talks

Newcastle were thought to be leading the chase for Ramsey, who is under contract until 2023. But that speculation appears to be wide of the mark.

As per journalist Jonathan Shrager, there are currently no talks between the Magpies and Ramsey’s representatives with regards to a January move.

He tweeted: “I am told that there are currently no conversations between Newcastle United and Aaron Ramsey’s representatives regarding a possible January transfer.”

That could well leave Aston Villa, Everton and Arsenal competing for his signature. Steven Gerrard’s men have been namechecked as suitors by Sport Mediaset, as cited by Sport Witness.

Allegri shuts door on Morata transfer

But, while signalling that Ramsey’s time was up, Allegri dismissed reports that Spain forward Alvaro Morata would be allowed to join Barcelona.

Morata had reportedly agreed a move to Barca. He would have had to interrupt his the two-season loan at Juve from Atletico Madrid.

It had appeared the deal was dependent on Juve finding a replacement for the striker. But in today’s press conference, Allegri slammed the door shut.

“I told Alvaro that he is staying here, he is not leaving Juventus, end of story,” Allegri said.

Juve paid Atletico Madrid €20m for the two-year loan. And they have an option to buy Morata at the end of the season for €35m.
