Dias’ Man City stint

Ruben Dias made the switch to Manchester City during last summer’s transfer window.

The Sky Blues are understood to have paid around £65m to land the stopper, a fee which has since proven well worth the outlay.

Dias has provided City’s backline with the kind of stability that has not been seen for several years now.

He has also played a key role in John Stones returning to his best over the course of the 2020/21 campaign, with the Englishman now expected to play a key role at Euro 2020 – something which seemed very unlikely a year ago.

Pep Guardiola’s side also boasted the best defensive record in the Premier League this past season, having allowed just 32 goals in 38 outings.

Even Chelsea, who became an extremely tough team to break down under Thomas Tuchel, still shipped four more goals than the title-winning City.

Ruben Dias named Premier League Player of the Season

Now, the Portuguese has been rewarded for his fine start to life at Manchester City.

Dias has, on Saturday, been crowned the 2020/21 Premier League Player of the Season.

The defender saw off all of Kevin De Bruyne, Bruno Fernandes, Jack Grealish, Harry Kane, Mason Mount, Mohamed Salah and Tomas Soucek to pick up the award.

Dias is also just the 4th defender in history to be named PL POTS after Virgil van Dijk, Nemanja Vidic and Vincent Kompany.
