MIYA Marcano’s cause of death is still not known and her family plans to stay in the Orlando area until her autopsy has been completed after her body was found on Saturday.
“The family will not be speaking with any media at this time; however, we will update the media with additional information in the coming days,” the family’s lawyer, Daryl K. Washington, said, according to the Sun-Sentinel.
Police named Armando Manuel Caballero, a maintenance worker at the apartment complex where Miya lived and worked, a person of interest in her death before he was found dead from an apparent suicide in a Seminole County apartment complex.
Her family said through a statement from their attorney on Sunday that they believe her death was “preventable.”
“We want to stress that we believe that her disappearance and consequential death was 100% preventable and we intend to hold those responsible accountable to the full extent of the law,” the statement says.
Remains that authorities believe belong to Miya were found in a wooded area at Tymber Skan apartments, 17 miles West of Arden Villas apartments in Orlando, where she lived and worked.
The 19-year-old Valencia College sophomore was last seen at around 5pm on September 24.
Though positive identification has yet to be made, a purse containing Miya’s ID was found near her body.
