Dani Ceballos has hinted that he would like to stay at “my club” Arsenal on a permanent basis, claiming to have “found happiness” under Mikel Arteta.
Ceballos spent last season on loan at the Emirates Stadium from Real Madrid. While it took some time for him to get going, he eventually found some good form after Arteta replaced Unai Emery as coach.
Hence, Arsenal decided to extend Ceballos’ loan into a second season. However, it wasn’t a straightforward negotiation, taking a number of weeks to complete.
Now, the midfielder has shed light on how his return to the Emirates Stadium materialised.
“I spoke with Madrid to say that Arteta wanted me to come back,” he told reporters while on international duty with Spain.
“They asked me to wait, but I was clear that I wanted to return to my club, where I had found myself very well.
“You sit down to appreciate that the Euros and Olympic Games are coming and you know that you have to play an important role in my team.
“With Mikel, I found happiness as a player and as a person. And that is key for a player.”
Ceballos played 24 times in the Premier League for Arsenal last season, while also becoming an FA Cup winner. At the start of this term, he has featured in all four league games – twice as a starter.
It is believed there is no option to buy in Ceballos’ loan deal, despite how happy he seems to be in London.
Merson says Man Utd should have signed ‘unbelievable’ new Arsenal man
Meanwhile, one former Arsenal midfielder has heaped praise on a current one – with Paul Merson describing Thomas Partey as an “unbelievable” signing.
Thomas will join Ceballos in midfield after joining from the other side of Madrid, with Arsenal having activated a release clause in his contract with Atletico.
And speaking to the Daily Star, Merson suggested that the Ghanaian is good enough to play for either of the Manchester clubs.
