Chelsea win big against valiant Villa; join Man United in exclusive PL-wins club
Thomas Tuchel’s first full season at the helm of Premier League giants Chelsea continues to get off to a strong start in 2021-22 after the Blues ran out 3-0 winners against Dean Smith’s Aston Villa at Stamford Bridge.
Smith’s outfit put on a valiant displace away from home this afternoon, crafting more chances (18) than their Chelsea counterparts (12) with a scoreline that may have flattered to deceive after a gift from Tyrone Mings allowed Mateo Kovačić to slot past Jed Steer, and a Romelu Lukaku stunner put the result beyond doubt after the Belgian opened the scoring on 15-minutes.
Despite the deceptively close affair, the win saw Chelsea earn a spot in the history books as they became only just the second club of the Premier League era to reach 600-wins.
600 – Chelsea have recorded their 600th win in the Premier League, joining Manchester United (690) as the only teams to reach this tally in the competition. Milestone. pic.twitter.com/hWsnFo1sSV

Only Manchester United has achieved more victories since the 1992-93 season, with other domestic giants the likes of Liverpool, Arsenal, and Manchester City.
Despite Chelsea’s overall stature in English football pailing in comparison to both Liverpool and Arsenal, their footprint on the Premier League landscape is an impressive one including the joint second-most league wins (5).
Romelu Lukaku lays down Golden Boot marker on Cristiano Ronaldo’s return day
As expected, Romelu Lukaku was at the center of it all for Chelsea this afternoon, with a brace pushing the Blues up the table and level on 10-points with Manchester United at the Premier League summit.
Many tipped Chelsea to be potential title favorites this season after the summer window saw Tuchel’s squad reinforced with not only Lukaku but also Atlético Madrid’s Saúl Ñíguez.
But the addition of Lukaku immediately addressed the one weakness in the Chelsea squad last season; an effective and reliable goalscorer. Despite the deficiency, Chelsea still went on to lift the Champions League trophy and are now expected to push for similar domestic success this season.
Lukaku currently stands on three goals in three after a debut goal against Arsenal and his two-goal effort earlier today, the same day Cristiano Ronaldo made a triumphant return to Old Trafford with a brace of his own.
As the pair of influential frontman swapped Serie A for the Premier League this summer, both will undoubtedly be setting their sights on the Golden Boot in an additive subplot to a pair of clubs already going neck and neck in the early doors of the season.
