Barcelona news: Ronaldo Araujo injury latest & why Sergino Dest didn’t play vs Panama

Updates on a pair of Barcelona stars to have picked up fitness concerns whilst on international duty have been forthcoming on Monday.

Uruguay standout

First up comes Ronald Araujo.

Central defender Araujo, one of few bright sparks amid an otherwise disappointing opening to the season at the Camp Nou, was in action with Uruguay on Sunday night.

La Celeste made the trip to Argentina for a World Cup qualifying showdown, but were eventually put to the sword by three goals to nil, courtesy of a Lionel Messi-inspired Albiceleste.

Adding to the woes of Oscar Tabarez’s visitors, meanwhile, was the early departure of the aforementioned Araujo from proceedings, late on in Buenos Aires.

As per Toni Juanmarti of Spanish outlet Sport, however, neither Uruguay, nor Barcelona, need fret over the 22-year-old’s condition.

This comes with Araujo understood to have only picked up a knock, and therefore expected to be fit to face off against Brazil later this week.

Latest from the USA camp

The 2nd Blaugrana star to have picked up a fitness issue whilst away with his country was of course Sergino Dest.

Gifted young right-back Dest, who has enjoyed more of a hit-and-miss start to the 2021/22 season, was forced to limp out of the United States’ qualifying win over Jamaica last week.

Subsequent word suggested that the former Ajax man had picked up a hamstring injury.

In turn, when Dest played no part in the USA’s meeting with Panama on Sunday, panic quickly set in surrounding a potential spell on the sidelines.

The aforementioned Juanmarti, however, has assured that the stopper’s omission last night was for sporting reasons, hinting that Dest, if needed, may in fact have been available for selection.
