Havertz claims winning with Chelsea is ‘worth more’ due to club ‘vision’

Kai Havertz claims winning a title with Chelsea will be “worth more” than at other clubs.

Havertz was Chelsea’s most expensive signing of a high-spending summer, costing more than £70m to prise away from Bayer Leverkusen.

The midfielder had long been linked with a move to the Premier League. Chelsea were not the only suitors, but they managed to take their chance to sign him.

So far, Havertz has one goal from seven appearances in the English top flight. He is confident of improving over time, though.

Now, the 21-year-old has reflected on his decision to join Chelsea instead of clubs like Bayern Munich – insisting he chose “a club with a vision” for the future.

“To me, it was important to have a club with a vision,” he told Sport Bild. “The club is on the move.

“We are a young team with a lot of great players. We think aggressively.

“We want to build something here and attack. This motivates me. And then, a title with Chelsea is just worth more.

“A transfer like this doesn’t happen overnight. I had enough to go through all options and things which are important to me. I was watching a lot of Premier League on TV anyhow and knew Chelsea really well.”

Havertz outlines Werner relationship

Havertz was not the only German player to move to Stamford Bridge over the summer. Striker Timo Werner also moved from the Bundesliga, as Chelsea bought him from RB Leipzig.

The midfielder says his compatriot has helped him in their first months at Chelsea, but knows they will only settle in properly without each other’s assistance.

“I help Timo with good passes on the pitch and, at the beginning, he helped me out with a lift to the training grounds,” he said.

“Sure, we do a lot of things together. This helps a lot. But we also must go our own ways to fully settle here.

“To me, the move to England is also important step for my personal development.”
