Real Madrid to repeat transfer strategy to secure Chelsea, Liverpool target

Real Madrid are reportedly looking to swoop into the race to sign a Monaco midfield talent also on the radar of Liverpool and Chelsea.

Madrid successfully raided Ligue 1 to sign Rennes starlet Eduardo Camavinga in the summer. But they are still looking to strengthen their midfield and could follow a similar strategy for their next reinforcement.

Carlo Ancelotti is keen to build an engine room that will last for the long term. With that in mind, there have already been links with the likes of classy Leicester star Youri Tielemans.

But another name on their radar, according to Marca, is Aurelien Tchouameni of Monaco.

Tchouameni’s potential has been apparent ever since he rose to prominence with Bordeaux. He earned a move to Monaco in January 2020 and was eased into their setup before enjoying a breakout 2020-21 season.

Last term, the midfielder made 42 appearances in all competitions. He has begun the current campaign with similar responsibility and was rewarded with his senior France debut in September.

The 21-year-old has impressed in all aspects of his play across his nine Ligue 1 appearances so far this term. As such, he has been attracting interest from elsewhere.

Chelsea have been keeping a particularly close eye on his development. There is already a feeling that they will not buy Saul Niguez after his loan spell from Atletico Madrid, leaving them in need of another midfielder.

But Liverpool recently entered the race too as they look to copy the strategy that led them to the successful signing of another former Monaco talent, Fabinho.

However, there is now the threat of Real Madrid on the horizon, as per Marca.

Real Madrid target Tchouameni

Los Blancos would have to work out a way to finance the deal given their delicate situation. However, there is a feeling that Luka Modric and Toni Kroos will not be around for too much longer, so it is somewhere they need to act.

Their subsequent interest in Tchouameni may serve as a wake-up call to the likes of Chelsea, Liverpool and Juventus, who are also making their own plans to sign him.

Monaco still have the five-cap international under contract until 2024 as per the terms of his original deal upon signing. They are believed to want at least €40m before contemplating his sale.

Although still balancing the books, Real were able to pay around €30m for Camavinga this summer. Therefore, they are still capable of making signings and are looking to invest for the future.

Tchouameni could thus follow Camavinga from France to Spain and become part of their long-term midfield.

He would initially serve as a deputy for Casemiro – a role Madrid are currently lacking – before potentially succeeding the 29-year-old over time.

His form in France has shown he is ready to contribute now, though. Therefore, he will be weighing up the best option for the next stage of his development.

Either way, Monaco seem likely to lose him at some stage – and to make a profit on their €18m buy.
