Arsenal’s midfield situation
Arsenal’s search for midfield reinforcements this summer has led them to Sassuolo and Italy star, Manuel Locatelli.
Dani Ceballos has departed the Emirates after the expiration of his loan deal, whilst Granit Xhaka appears to be on his way to Roma.
This would leave just Thomas Partey and Mohamed Elneny as recognised central midfield options for Mikel Arteta next term.
As a result, it is unsurprising that the Gunners appear to be eyeing up a couple of midfielders this summer.
A deal for Albert Sambi Lokonga looks set to be completed very soon:

However, it appears that the Gunners would like to add another central midfielder to their ranks, too.
Among the names linked has, as mentioned above, been Manuel Locatelli, who caught the eye this summer with an impressive Euro 2020 showing for Italy vs Switzerland.
Sassuolo’s CEO previously claimed that Arsenal have tabled a bid for the Italian, albeit whilst also mentioning that Juventus want him, with a ‘special’ relationship existing between the clubs.
Manuel Locatelli comments on transfer speculation
Now, with Euro 2020 over, Locatelli has been drawn on the recent transfer speculation surrounding him.
However, the comments are probably not what Arsenal fans wanted to hear at present.
Firstly, Locatelli stated that he has not really thought about the transfer speculation, which makes sense given his side made it to the Euro 2020 final.
But the midfielder then went on to state that the interest from Juventus is pleasing, whilst not mentioning Arsenal at all:
“Up until now, I haven’t really thought about it, I couldn’t.
“The interest from Juventus is pleasing, they are a great team and I have said it several times.”
