Barcelona starlet Ansu Fati ‘as good or better than’ Kylian Mbappé according to La Liga chief

Ansu Fati on level terms with Kylian Mbappé

There is something to be said about supporting those that are in your corner.

For La Liga chief Javier Tebas, that may even include sensationalist claims despite factual narratives after the top dog in Spanish club football backed Barcelona starlet Ansu Fati to be on level terms with French ace Kylian Mbappé.

Tebas did not mince words when speaking with El Partidazo de Cope (cited by AS), insisting that Fati is in the same category as Mbappé;

“We always like to give a lot of value to what we have outside of Spain. We have Ansu Fati, who unfortunately has had injuries, but over time he has shown that he is equal to or better than Mbappé.”

The data behind both players do not back Tebas’ claims, however. As mentioned above in the article by AS “Fati, who inherited Lionel Messi’s number 10 shirt at Camp Nou in September and recently signed a new long-term deal, has scored 17 goals in 51 appearances for Barca in all competitions. Over the same period, Mbappé has found the net 77 times in 97 games for PSG, netting at a rate of one goal every 98 minutes. Fati gets one every 138 minutes. Mbappé has also outperformed Fati in terms of assists, setting up his PSG teammates 33 times compared to three for the Spain international.”

Barcelona continue to be linked with incoming transfers

Barcelona boss Xavi continues to waste no time in targeting reinforcements from the outset of his new regime at the Camp Nou after the club brought in former teammate Dani Alves.

The Blaugrana are currently suffering a massive injury crisis in the first team – with Ansu Fati being one of eleven players on the treatment table at current – and not only will Xavi have to contend with the walking wounded, but how he can improve the quality of the team as Barcelona look to push up the table after a torrid start to the 2021-22 La Liga campaign.

Barcelona was linked with interest in Liverpool midfielder Thiago Alcântara as recently as today in a second attempt by Xavi to bring former clubmates back to the Camp Nou, but regardless of what direction Xavi intends to take as he tries to revamp the squad, the opening stages of his tenure are sure to be tenuous to say the least.
