Lokonga sends message to Mikel Arteta Arsenal fans will love

Lokonga’s Arsenal stint

Arsenal would secure the services of Albert Sambi Lokonga during the 2021 summer transfer window.

The young midfielder was signed for Belgian outfit Anderlecht on a long-term contract:

Given that he was just 21 when he joined the club and had no experience in Europe’s top-five leagues, there was an expectation that Lokonga would be bedded in slowly at Arsenal.

And whilst that has happened to an extent, injury and suspension issues have led to Mikel Arteta calling upon Lokonga on a more regular basis than he would probably have liked at this stage.

The central midfielder has now featured 12 times for Arsenal, including in 10 of their 11 Premier League ties.

Lokonga’s message to Arteta

And though he is still only getting used to the PL, it is fair to say that Lokonga has so far impressed for the Gunners.

The Anderlecht youth has excelled alongside both Thomas Partey and Ainsley Maitland-Niles, and looks set to maintain his starting berth whilst Granit Xhaka is sidelined.

But whilst Lokonga has impressed in north London already, he seemingly believes there is more to come from him.

On his time at Arsenal so far and being thrust into the starting eleven, the 22-year-old stated in a recent interview:

“Yes, it’s gone a bit quicker than anticipated, but I was well prepared physically, mentally and on a football level.

“I don’t want to say that I had the required qualities but apparently they suit the manager. I’m fighting for my spot, I play games and I’m getting minutes. I’m very happy. I made the right choice, but I already knew that”.

Lokonga then sent a message to Mikel Arteta which Arsenal fans will no doubt love, stating that the Spaniard will see an even better Lokonga next year:

“The manager speaks to me a lot, I like that, but he doesn’t let me rest. I was told that he’d said that my integration and my performances impressed him. Good, but next year, he’ll see an even better Sambi!”
