Report: Christian Pulisic among the Chelsea players Barcelona is eyeing moves for

Christian Pulisic’s future at Chelsea remains unknown with Thomas Tuchel possessing several attacking players to call on, and one European club is reportedly targeting a loan move for the American star’s services.

Barcelona is eyeing Pulisic, Hakim Ziyech, and Callum Hudson-Odoi for loan moves to the Camp Nou, Spanish outlet Sport reported Saturday. New Barcelona manager Xavi has already acquired former teammate Dani Alves in his early days on the job and Pulisic could be on his wishlist during the January Transfer Window.

Pulisic has missed most of the current English Premier League season with Chelsea due to an ankle injury suffered on U.S. men’s national team duty in September’s World Cup Qualifying schedule. The 23-year-old only recently returned to action with Chelsea over the past two weeks, before scoring the winning goal for Gregg Berhalter’s side in Friday’s 2-0 win against Mexico.

Pulisic is coming off an up-and-down season with Chelsea in 2020-21, seeing a more frequent role under Tuchel than former manager Frank Lampard. The Pennsylvania native has contributed 18 goals and 14 assists in 81 combined appearances for the Blues since his move from Borussia Dortmund in 2019, winning the UEFA Champions League last season.

Barcelona’s best chance of acquiring Pulisic in January is likely through a loan spell due to the club’s financial situation. The La Liga club sits ninth in the league table and has won its last two UCL matches after losing to Bayern Munich and Benfica by respective 3-0 scorelines.

The interest in Pulisic appears more a case of Barcelona creating a wish list of potential transfer bargains, and Chelsea’s current overflow of talent makes the Blues an appealing target for Barcelona to try and shop for potential bargains.

A Pulisic move to Barcelona would mean joining USMNT teammate Sergiño Dest, who appears to be part of Xavi’s plans despite earlier reports suggesting Barcelona might sell the former Ajax fullback to help offset some of the team’s financial troubles.
