Arsenal could send Sambi Lokonga on loan despite spending more than €17.5m on the player

Arsenal closing on Lokonga

In what has been one of the most protracted transfer stories of the summer, it does look like Arsenal will be confirming Sambi Lokonga as their latest signing.

Joining from Anderlecht, the player is said by Fabrizio Romano to be effectively considered an Arsenal player now with a fee of €17.5 million agreed plus add-ons.

The player has undertaken a medical and will quarantine. The hope is he will be able to join up with the squad for their tour of Florida facing Inter Milan and one of either Everton or Colombian side Millonarios.

However, the tour could be more crucial to Lokonga’s immediate future than many are anticipating.

Lokonga loan exit touted

Arsenal fans who were hoping to see Lokonga pull on the red and white of Arsenal in the Premier League next season could be disappointed.

Initially reported by Belgian magazine Sport via Sport Witness, it is ‘gradually emerging as a hypothesis,’ that the club could send the player on loan.

101 understands that whilst a decision to send Lokonga on loan has not yet been made, how the Belgian performs in preseason could determine his short-term prospects.

Arsenal fans have grown increasingly frustrated with the handling of the French defender William Saliba.

Signed from Saint Etienne for a sizeable fee, he has yet to play for the club. He is set to join Marseille this season for his third loan spell and immediate parallel’s with Lokonga will likely be drawn.

The difference being that Mikel Arteta is responsible for the acquisition of Lokonga and wouldn’t have brought him in if he did not see him in the club’s plans.
