Eric Dier absence confirmed as England leave four more off squad list

Eric Dier will miss England’s Nations League clash with Denmark on Wednesday through injury, while a quartet of other stars have also been left out.

The 26-year-old helped the Three Lions to a 2-1 victory against Belgium on Sunday. However, he has since sustained a slight hamstring complaint.

Tottenham defender Dier will not feature against Denmark after being left off England’s 23-man squad for Wednesday’s Group A2 match at Wembley.

Harry Winks, Michael Keane, Harvey Barnes and Tammy Abraham have also been left off the squad list published by UEFA.

The latter was delayed in meeting up with Gareth Southgate’s side after footage emerged of him at a party flouting the government’s ‘rule of six’ regulations. Fellow England players Ben Chilwell and Jadon Sancho were also in attendance.

Injury led to Chilwell’s withdrawal from the squad on Tuesday, when Kieran Trippier also left the camp after an FA hearing for alleged betting breaches.

England could ask one of Trent Alexander-Arnold or Kyle Walker to fill in on the left side. Bukayo Saka is another option.

Conor Coady and Joe Gomez could partner Harry Maguire, though England may revert to a back three.

After a difficult first half, England collectively managed to get higher up the field in the second period. And a Marcus Rashford penalty and a strike from Mason Mount won them the game.

Alexander-Arnold did get the license to drift in field as Southgate opted to match up Belgium’s formation in an experimental XI.

However, Cole, who was capped 107 times believes the Liverpool player is better coming from deeper positions.
