Arsenal open talks with PSG star with five-year deal on the table

Arsenal have begun negotiations with Paris Saint-Germain over the potential arrival of full-back Layvin Kurzawa, according to a French report.

The Gunners’ struggled this campaign have been characterised by a leaky defence with just four clean sheets to their name from 22 league matches.

Numerous injuries to summer recruit Kieran Tierney have ensured Sead Kolasinac has had to deputise at left-back, but news of the Bosnian’s recent thigh strain, as well as Hector Bellerin’s hamstring troubles have left the Gunners perilously short of numbers at the back.

Now, a report from French outlet RMC Sport (via Goal.com) has revealed that Mikel Arteta will aim to remedy his defensive ailments with the arrival of PSG left-back Layvin Kurzawa.

The 27-year-old’s contract with the Parisian club expires in the summer, meaning he would be able to join on a free transfer in six months’ if the two clubs agree terms, though the article states ‘a January move has not been ruled out.’

Kurzawa has slipped down the pecking order with the French champions this season, with Spanish international Juan Bernat often preferred on the left side of defence.

The 14-times capped France international does boast an impressive goals return for a defender, however, notching 12 goals in all competitions for the club in just 100 appearances.

The Gunners are believed to have offered a ‘five-year contract to Kurzawa,’ who is described as being ‘keen on a move to England.’

In other Arsenal transfer news, the Gunners are reportedly set to show ambition by joining the race for a Man Utd-linked star to become their long-term Mesut Ozil replacement.

Arteta is yet to make a signing during his first transfer window as Arsenal manager, but the club continue to be linked with a number of players.

One particular player in question is Leicester City’s James Maddison, with the midfielder becoming one of the hottest properties in the Premier League after a series of superb midfield displays this year.

Arteta is reportedly confident that Arsenal could offer him the regular gametime at the top level he needs to become an established England international, having only received one senior cap so far.
