Manchester City star Riyad Mahrez recently named two former players as his icons, one of which is a former Chelsea star.
Mahrez’s illustrious career
Riyad Mahrez would begin his career in England by making history with Leicester City. The year after barely staving off relegation, the Foxes caused the biggest upset in Premier League history by going on to win the league title in 2015/16.
Mahrez would then, of course, make the move to Manchester City in the summer of 2018.
The attacker departed Leicester City for the Manchester outfit for a fee believed to be around the £61m mark.
And, since making the switch to the Etihad, Mahrez has played a key role in the continuing success of Manchester City.
The Algerian has helped Manchester City secure two league titles, an FA Cup, three League Cups and a Community Shield.
Mahrez was also instrumental in the Sky Blues reaching the 2021 Champions League final, putting on some starring displays in the quarter and semi-finals.
Mahrez names Chelsea star as icon
Now, the 30-year-old has moved to name his footballing icons in a recent interview.
Said players would be named as Didier Drogba, who of course enjoyed an illustrious career with Chelsea and is one the most successful Africans in Premier League history
The other player, meanwhile, is former France star Frank Ribery:
“[Didier] Drogba, [Franck] Ribery.
“I never met them when I was young, when I was a teenager and I met with them when I made it in football, in the Premier League and stuff and I always tell them ‘I used to be a fan of you’ and then they’re laughing and stuff but it’s good, you know?”
