A pair of fresh developments surrounding Dani Alves’ Barcelona return have been forthcoming on Monday evening.

Xavi sanctions comeback

The name of Brazilian icon Alves has of course taken centre stage in the Catalan capital over the course of the last week.

This comes on the back of the shock announcement that, a full five years after departing, the veteran defender is set to link back up with the club with whom he enjoyed near-unrivalled success.

On the back of Xavi Hernandez’s instillation on the bench at the Camp Nou, speculation quickly began to spread that a reunion with Alves may be on the cards, owing to the latter’s free agent status.

And precisely that was confirmed on November 12th, as Barca took to the club’s social media platforms to announce their beloved one-time full-back’s imminent return:

Alves 8

Alves, at 38, is expected to play something of a bit-part role over the remainder of the campaign, with his more telling contributions likely to come behind the scenes at the Camp Nou, in aiding the development of the likes of Sergino Dest and Oscar Mingueza.

Nevertheless, if the first photos of the Brazilian reuniting with some of his former teammates are anything to go by, then, evidently, the Blaugrana’s stars are overjoyed to have Alves back at the club.

On the back of their respective returns from international duty with Spain, Sergio Busquets and Jordi Alba were this afternoon spotted linking back up with the latest addition to Xavi’s squad at Barca’s training ground.

And, safe to say, it was all smiles amongst the trio:

Elsewhere, the shirt number which Alves is expected to take on for the remainder of the 2021/22 campaign has also been revealed.

As per journalist Gerard Romero, the ex-Sevilla, Juventus and PSG star will don the number 8 moving forward:
