Crystal Palace hopeful summer spending will be enough to convince Wilfried Zaha to stay

Crystal Palace hopeful summer spending will be enough to convince Wilfried Zaha to stay

Zaha wants Crystal Palace exit

It would not be a summer transfer window without some Wilfried Zaha rumours.

The Ivorian is known to have been trying to leave Crystal Palace for some time now.

Zaha was heavily tipped to join Everton in 2019, and was said to have been left ‘devastated’ after not being able to secure a move.

And now, with the 2021 summer window open, the attacker appears to be angling for a move again.

The Times reported last month that Zaha had informed Palace that he wants to leave, and would like a transfer sorted before the beginning of pre-season training.

Palace hopeful of Zaha stay

However, since that report back in early June,  few updates have since emerged regarding a potential Zaha transfer.

At the beginning of the transfer window, Palace chairman Steve Parish had the following to say regarding the club’s star man:

“We understand his position. It’s no secret that he would like to challenge himself.

“But it has to be right for the football club. He understands that as well. If those two things collide then we will have to look at it. But right now, we are two days into the transfer window so it’s a bit early to talk about it.”

And herein lies the biggest problem for Zaha. There is no doubting his quality, but it is quite apparent that no other club values him anywhere near as highly as Palace do.

This makes sense, when taking into account the fact that the Ivorian is the Eagles’ star player, and they would likely be sucked into a relegation battle without him.

But Palace’s valuation may well price Zaha out of a move again this summer, with Jack Rosser of the Evening Standard having confirmed that the wide-man has received little concrete interest from elsewhere.

It is added that the Eagles are hopeful their summer spending will be enough to convince Zaha to stay.

Palace have already signed promising talent Michael Olise from Reading, and also look set to complete a move for Chelsea’s Marc Guehi:
