Ibrahima Konate explains what he will bring to Liverpool

Liverpool sign Konate

Liverpool would, at the back end of May, confirm the signing of Ibrahima Konate from RB Leipzig.

The deal is believed to be setting Liverpool back £36m.

Konate joined previously club Leipzig on a free transfer in the summer of 2017, from French outfit, FC Sochaux-Montbéliard.

And the 22-year-old went on to garner 95 appearances for Die Roten Bullen, including 21 this past season.

Konate is fast, powerful and good with the ball at his feet and will no doubt prove himself to be a solid signing for a Liverpool side whose centre-back woes in 2020/21 played a key role in them losing their league title to Manchester City in rather disappointing fashion.

Konate speaks out

Now though, with Virgil van Dijk and Joe Gomez returning from injury and Konate signed, Liverpool now look to have one of the best backlines in the Premier League.

And, with pre-season now underway, Liverpool’s latest centre-back addition has been speaking out, discussing the qualities he has brought with him to Merseyside.

According to Konate, he is big, strong and he is not scared with the ball – all of which are qualities required in top, modern central defender:

“I am big, I am strong and I am not scared with the ball!

“I can score more with my foot than my head, it is a little bit strange! This is me!

“Yes, I have this quality, but I have to work again and again and more and more and more for being a very good defender.”

Konate was also asked if he feels confident about adapting his game to meet the demands of English football, to which he replied:

“Yes, I have watched some Premier League games and everybody knows there is so much intensity, strong players.

“This is difficult but I love the challenge.”
