Liverpool: Alisson’s new contract and the future of Ben Davies

In this article, we will cover all of today’s Liverpool transfer news.

Alisson’s new contract pending

First, some good news for Liverpool fans. World-class goalkeeper Alisson is set to extend his time on Merseyside, penning a new contract that will see him remain in between the sticks for Liverpool until 2026.

Since joining the club in 2018, Alisson has lifted a Champions League trophy and the Premier League, whilst providing a significant upgrade on Liverpool’s previous goalkeeper situation.

44 clean sheets in 3 seasons is four more than the club had kept in the three seasons before the Brazilian’s arrival, while he is much more comfortable playing the ball with his feet than his predecessors, a pre-requisite of the modern goalkeeper.

Still just 28 years old, Alisson could well remain in goal for the Merseyside club until well into his thirties, allowing the club to focus on strengthening other areas.

Ben Davies to move on

Amidst a defensive emergency last season, Ben Davies and Ozan Kabak were signed in January to fill the void left by a multitude of injuries. However, Kabak has since left the club after his loan expired, and Ben Davies is seemingly primed to do likewise.

The defender was signed from Preston North End for just 2 million pounds but is yet to make a competitive appearance for Jurgen Klopp’s side. Now, as per Sky, citing The Sun, he could be on his way out of the club, in the search for first-team football.

The Welshman will not be short of suitors, with Celtic among the clubs rumoured to be interested in his signature. Will Liverpool come to regret any sale?

Saul Niguez links persist

With the departure of Georgino Wijnaldum at the end of the season, Liverpool are a man light in midfield. As such, it seems as though they are in the market for a replacement.

One of the names linked with the club this summer is Atletico Madrid’s Saul Niguez. The Spaniard has made over 300 appearances in the Spanish capital.

Saul was thought to be moving to Barcelona, in a swap deal for Antoine Griezmann. However, reports from Spain suggest that this deal has stalled for the time being, bringing Premier League clubs back to the table.

As transfer expert Fabrizio Romano reports, Liverpool, along with Chelsea, are interested in signing the midfielder if the deal is to fall through.

Would he be the missing piece in Klopp’s midfield?
