Manchester United to keep Jesse Lingard as links to right-back intensify

In this article, we will cover all of today’s Manchester United transfer news.

Lingard to stay

Jesse Lingard enjoyed a footballing renaissance during his loan spell with West Ham. Joining the east Londoners on loan in January, the 28 year old midfielder went on to register nine goals and five assists in his 16 appearances for David Moyes’ side, helping to propel them into the Europa League places.

West Ham are thought to remain keen on signing the midfielder on a permanent basis, but have been unwilling to match Manchester United’s reported 30 million pound price tag for a player with one year left on his current deal.

After a pre-season friendly against Derby County in which Lingard played the second half, Ole Gunnar Solskjear was full of praise for the Englishman, and suggested that he will remain at Old Trafford this season, saying:

“He was one of the positives. He’s a Manchester United player and he wants to fight for his place.”

“He’s come back bright, confident and with lots of energy. I think everyone saw what he did at the end of last season with West Ham.

“He’s still in my plans. I expect him at Man Utd at the start of the season.”

Sancho announcement imminent

Manchester United have, of course, already made their first signing of the summer already, with Jadon Sancho joining the club from Borussia Dortmund. However, the winger is yet to be unveiled as a Red Devil following the Euro 2020 heartbreak he and England suffered a week ago.

However, Solskjaer confirmed that an announcement is imminent, saying that “there is just some paperwork to sort” before Sancho can be confirmed as a Manchester United player.

He is the first signing in what could prove a decisive summer for the Manchester Club, who are still looking for their first silverware under Solskjaer.

Kieran Trippier to follow Sancho to Manchester?

According to a report in The Sun, a potential deal for England right-back Kieran Trippier is “all but done”. The 30-year-old has spent the last two seasons in Spain with Atletico Madrid, where he won La Liga.

It had previously been reported by The Telegraph that the English defender, previously of Tottenham Hotspur, was “desperate” for a move back to England, and it appears as though he may finally have got his wish.

Would United fans be happy with this deal?
