Erling Haaland father slams door shut emphatically on Man Utd transfer

Manchester United have seen hopes of a future deal for Erling Haaland dashed after the player’s father insisted the striker had no intention of leaving Borussia Dortmund any time soon.

The 20-year-old striker has become something of a goal-machine since his emergence with RB Salzburg. He netted 29 goals in 27 games for the Austrian side before securing a move to Borussia Dortmund for just £17.2m.

United had been in the mix to sign him and even held talks with the player and his agent Mino Raiola.

The Red Devils ultimately missed out on his signing though, despite their lucrative offer to the Leeds-born attacker.

United, however, do remain in the hunt over a possible future deal. Indeed, Paul Scholes has urged Ole Gunnar Solskjaer to do all he can to reunite with his countryman at Old Trafford.

When questioned about links to the Red Devils, Alf Inge, insists that his son has no immediate plans to move on.

In fact, he quite firmly states that Haaland jnr is very much focused on success at the Westfalonstadion.

“When you play well, it’s only logical that big clubs knock on the door. But we’re talking about speculation here,” he told Sport 1.

“At the moment it is not in Erling’s or in my head that another club will be vying for him.”

Haaland has a reported exit clause in his contract at Dortmund that kicks in during summer 2022.

However, Alf Inge, insists a move away is just not on his radar.

“We signed a long contract with Dortmund and BVB have a fantastic team for Erling right now. We don’t want to look any further yet.

“You never know what will happen. We haven’t talked about such a step yet. I think he would like to win some trophies with Dortmund.

“That is his goal. Erling can still achieve a lot in Germany and make great progress. Abroad is not a priority for us.”

Haaland wary of United talk

While United could no doubt offer Haaland a bigger financial package, it’s felt many see a prospective move to Old Trafford as a step down.

Indeed, Dortmund can seemingly offer a more regular route into the Champions League.

And while Alf Inge believes United are going places under Solskjaer, he is wary of comparing the two clubs.

“He is happy to be in Dortmund and to play for this club,” he added, via Sport Witness.

“There are so many nice people there, and it really is a fantastic club.

“It’s hard to compare the different clubs. Manchester United have achieved great success in recent years. The club is also trying to build something new there.

“But to draw this comparison now is not so easy because he is already playing in Dortmund. These are two very traditional clubs with a large fan base and a glorious history.

“Man United is a very proud club, just like Dortmund in Germany. And Dortmund want to beat FC Bayern soon, that’s the clear goal.

“We have to catch up with the Munich team. Erling wants to cling to this goal.”
