Coronavirus UK LIVE: Deaths reach 36,042 as Government trial ‘on-the-spot’ swab test and reveal antibody test roll out

THE UK coronavirus death toll hit 36,042 today and the government announced plans to roll out more than 10 million antibody tests next week.

Matt Hancock revealed contracts had been signed to provide the tests from Roche Diagnostics and Abbot Labs.

The Health Secretary said the tests would be distributed in phases during this evening’s press conference.

Meanwhile, Mr Hancock also revealed a new ‘on-the-spot’ swab test is being trialled, which would provide results in 20 minutes.

His comments come after the death toll in the UK increased by 338 in just 24 hours.

Elsewhere, EasyJet announced it would resume a small number of flights in the UK and France next month with crew and passengers wearing masks.

Also, Boris Johnson is set to launch a new track-and-trace scheme by June 1 to identify new coronavirus cases and isolate them quickly.
