Manchester United face one huge rival to sign Jadon Sancho after rival Bundesliga club Bayern Munich made enquiries about the Borussia Dortmund star earlier this year.
United have been touted as the favourites to land 20-year-old England flyer Sancho, but Bayern Munich are emerging has serious rivals to land the €120million-rated winger.
ESPN report that Bayern “made enquiries about him before the coronavirus shutdown” and are intent on adding him to their squad this summer.
Bayern have Manchester City’s Leroy Sane as a priority target, but sources have told ESPN they are “keeping their options open” and will make a bid for Sancho if a prospective move for Sane falters.
However, Bayern still look up against it in their bid to land Sancho with Dortmund keen not to be seen as a feeder club for their domestic rivals.
Mario Gotze, Robert Lewandowski and Mats Hummels have all made the move south from Dortmund to Munich in recent years.
The source also suggest Bayern would have to pay “a premium” to get yet another player from their biggest domestic rivals.
That still leaves United in a decent position for a player, who has a contract until 2022 at Dortmund. There is however an agreement in place between club and player that will allow him to leave this summer if someone meets his asking €100m-plus asking price.
Sancho is believed to be one of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s top targets and Dortmund remain confident they will receive their asking price for Sancho, despite financial fears surrounding the coronavirus, which has seen a dramatic climb in United’s debt.
The Telegraph report that fees and wages are expected to drop by 50 per cent when the summer window opens, but Europe’s most coveted players are likely to see their value remain intact.
