Americans Abroad Midweek Preview: Steffen, Sargent, and more

Manchester City remain favorites to recapture the Carabao Cup this season and Zack Steffen is expected to remain the starting goalkeeper for the cup competition this week.

The Citizens travel to Arsenal on Tuesday looking to keep their hopes of a fourth-straight league cup success alive. Steffen did not dress in Man City’s 1-0 league win over Southampton on Saturday, but should be back in goal for his fourth appearance of the season. Steffen has won his first three starts in the competition so far, conceding only one goal in the process. The U.S. Men’s National Team No. 1 keeper has yet to make his Premier League debut for the English giants, but could play a vital role in helping Pep Guardiola’s side lift at least one trophy this season.

Elsewhere, Josh Sargent and Werder Bremen aim to advance in the German DFB Pokal competition while Sergino Dest and Barcelona face a trip to Real Valladolid. Gio Reyna, John Brooks, and Tyler Adams will all look to feature in cup play in Germany. DeAndre Yedlin and Newcastle United visit Brentford in EFL Cup play with the USMNT veteran coming off his first league start of the new season.
