Danny Ings advised to snub Southampton offer and seal dream transfer

Danny Ings advised to snub Southampton offer and seal dream transfer

Danny Ings is likely to quit Southampton at the end of the season amid interest in him two of the Premier League’s bigger clubs, according to Emile Heskey.

The former Liverpool man is enjoying the form of his career, having hit 10 goals for club and country. The Saints star looks a good bet to make England’s European Championships squad.

However, with his current St Mary’s deal due to expire in June 2022, Southampton are keen to tie him to an extension. However, with Manchester City and Tottenham both linked, Saints face a tough task in tying him down.

Indeed, Jose Mourinho is still seeking a solid striker to provide cover and competition for Harry Kane. City, meanwhile, are in need of a new No 9 with Sergio Aguero poised to leave on a free transfer. Four big-name European sides have been linked with a move for the record-breaking Argentine.

Indeed, Heskey has urged the 28-year-old to move on this summer for another crack at the big time.

Asked by HiTC if he thinks Ings would leaving Saints, he said: “He would definitely be looking. He’s been so unlucky with injuries but he’s shown, on many occasions, that he’s got the ability and he can score goals – and different types of goals.

“His goal the other day was phenomenal, the technique. He’s got an immense understanding of the game, when he plays up front with Che Adams, I love it.

“When I was playing up front with Michael [Owen] or Robbie [Fowler], we were always looking for each other – it’s all about the link-up.

“The defensive side of it, he wants to do that as well. He’s a manager’s dream. And now he’s probably saying; ‘I want to win some stuff now, I want to be a major part of a team winning stuff’.

“It could be exciting,” he continued. “They’ve got Son, who I think is fantastic, but he can play in different positions, he can play on the wings.

“Kane and Ings are both intelligent footballers. They must have played together with England as well so there must be an understanding,” Heskey said, adding: “That would be a great move for him.”

Hasenhuttl keen to tie Ings down

Saints boss Ralph Hasenhuttl takes his side to take on Leeds on Tuesday evening in a rearranged Premier League game.

He knows how important Ings is to his side but remains cautious on their chances of tying him down.

“We are trying to extend his contract. Yes, it’s not a secret,” the Austrian said

“We are in negotiations but we have in the moment a tricky situation the Premier League where every club is losing money.

“We can only do what we can do and this is why we are looking.

He added. “Danny shows that he wants to be with us, that he wants to be with the club. I am hoping that we find an agreement.”
