Liverpool captain Jordan Henderson has praised under-fire youngster Tyler Morton, and thinks that he will have a big future with the side.
Morton has made seven senior appearances for the Reds this season. Indeed, he played a full 90 minutes in Champions League fixtures against both AC Milan and Porto.
The youngster has also started Liverpool’s last two fixtures, in the centre of midfield. However, an incident with Ricardo Pereira unfortunately resulted in a broken leg for the Portuguese full-back.
Nonetheless, Liverpool and Klopp clearly see something in Morton to blood him in the first team at just 19 years old. And captain Henderson has now spoken of Morton having a very bright future ahead of him.
“Tyler has been brilliant over the last few months, I really think he has improved,” he told LiverpoolFC.com
“He has obviously learned and listened to a lot of the lads around him in training and being around the lads, in the dressing room and in training, it will certainly help him.”
Indeed, learning from midfielders such as Henderson himself and Thiago is sure to help Morton’s development.
“And I think that has helped him going into games, I think he has looked comfortable and he hasn’t looked fazed at all and he has done really well,” Henderson added.
Indeed, Morton has looked capable in big games that he has featured in so far in his first-team career.
“So hopefully he can just carry on doing that. He is a great lad as well, he has worked extremely hard and I’m sure he’ll have a big future ahead of him,” Henderson concluded.
Morton caused horror injury; Pereira questions decision
Morton hit the headlines recently when causing a horror injury to Leicester’s Ricardo Pereira in Liverpool’s EFL Cup victory last week.
Obviously, the teenager did not mean to do Pereira any harm with the challenge. Nonetheless, Morton has come under fire for the reckless challenge.
Pereira himself has questioned the decision for Morton to only receive a yellow card for causing his injury. Foxes boss Brendan Rodgers also weighed in on the lack of a red card.
“Ricardo Pereira will be [out for] six to eight weeks,” said Rodgers in the fallout of their defeat to Manchester City.
“That’s so frustrating for him with how hard he has worked. For the referee not to see that, it’s a fractured fibula and he’s lucky it’s not worse.”
