Ek and Arsenal invincibles ‘determined to push on’ with takeover bid despite Kroenke stance

Daniel Ek and the Arsenal legends in support of his bid are ‘determined to push on’ with a potential takeover despite Stan Kroenke’s insistence he will not listen to offers.

Ek, co-founder and chief executive of music streaming service Spotify, last week expressed an interest in buying Arsenal following protests from the Gunners’ supporters over current owners the Kroenke family.

The Swedish billionaire’s bid has been handed support from Arsenal ‘Invincibles’ Thierry Henry, Patrick Vieira and Dennis Bergkamp, with the group reported to be preparing a bid of £1.8bn to take charge at the Emirates.

Kroenke has responded to the speculation by insisting he will not entertain any offers for Arsenal, though the Telegraph are reporting the American owner’s stance has not deterred Ek from his plans.

Ek is understood to be prepared to take a patient approach to a potential takeover at the Emirates and is ‘ready for a process that could last as long as six months’ as he bids to change Kroenke’s view on a sale of his majority stake.

Kroenke has come under increasing pressure to sell the north London side following the club’s involvement in controversial European Super League plans, with thousands of fans having protested with flares and banners outside the club’s Emirates Stadium ahead of the 1-0 defeat to Everton on April 23.

Ek is reportedly prepared to meet with Arsenal fans as he seeks further support for his takeover bid, with the 38-year-old ‘open’ to the ‘golden share’ idea that gives fans the power to vote on major decisions.

Developments may change following the government’s fan-led review on ownership of football clubs in England, with the fall-out from the collapsed European Super League proposal leading to potential changes in majority ownerships.
