Tottenham are weighing up a move for Barcelona starlet Lucas de Vega, whose “dream” is to sign for the north London club, according to a report.
The 20-year-old began his youth career at Barca’s famed La Masia academy, stepping up to Barcelona B last summer. Soon after, he signed up to a season-long loan at LaLiga 2 side Cartegena.
According to La Verdad, however, Cartegena have admitted defeat in keeping him there due to his rising stock. The Spanish club wanted another loan deal but that is unlikely, with De Vega’s salary to increase to match his performances.
As such, the report adds that there are other “important” clubs keeping an eye on the midfielder. One of those is Tottenham, who are considering bringing him to the club.
Indeed, La Verdad claims De Vega’s “dream” is to try his hand in Spurs’ academy ranks before progressing into the first team.
That is a pathway trodden by many a top player in the past, including England captain Harry Kane.
The feeling between De Vega and Spurs is reportedly mutual, with the north London side willing to sign him for what would be a low fee.
However, should Spurs pass up on the opportunity, Sporting Gijon, Tenerife and Malaga are also keen.
De Vega made 24 appearances in all competitions last season, netting two goals.
Tottenham have completed one marquee signing so far this summer. Jose Mourinho‘s side brought in Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg from Southampton.
What’s more, a deal to bring Wolves full-back Matt Doherty to the club is reportedly close.
BARCA STAR IN REPORTED SPURS CLAIM
Meanwhile, reports claim Barcelona midfielder Ivan Rakitic “wouldn’t mind” playing for Tottenham.
The Croatian is facing an uncertain future at Camp Nou. Amid Ronald Koeman’s arrival as manager, the Dutchman has allegedly told him and Arturo Vidal that they are surplus to requirements.
Indeed, Liverpool’s Georginio Wijnaldum is said to be a target for Koeman.
