Reports in Italy claim Mesut Ozil has been offered to Juventus on a six-month loan deal, with Arsenal happy to help financially.
Ozil, 32, has been frozen out at the Emirates and has not kicked a ball in anger this season. The former Germany playmaker was left out of the Gunners’ domestic and European squads.
He has not made an appearance since March and been linked with a number of clubs in recent times. Italian outlet Tuttosport are suggesting that the wheels are now in motion for a possible loan spell in Turin.
Ozil earns £350,000 per week – a sizeable wage for someone not making a contribution to the team. The reports also states that Arsenal would be happy to pay a portion of that salary to help the move.
It is said that Juve have held talks with Ozil’s representatives over the proposal. The possibility of playing with Cristiano Ronaldo once again might appeal to the midfielder.
The duo were in the same team at Real Madrid and dovetailed together nicely in the final third. Back in 2018, Ozil revealed his admiration for the Portugal ace.
“Another thing people always ask me about is what it was like to play with Cristiano Ronaldo and all I can say is that I’ve never seen a person like him,” he told Arsenal’s official website.
“I really enjoyed playing with him because he made me better on the pitch and he’s a great guy off it, too.”
Options still open at Arsenal
Although a move elsewhere would seem the best solution for player and club, Ozil’s agent has hinted he might stay.
Saturday’s 3-1 home win over Chelsea was their first league win in eight attempts. They still sit 15th in the Premier League standings and are 10 points adrift of fourth-placed Manchester United.
Arteta could re-register Ozil in January for the remainder of the campaign. They have missed his experience and knowhow in the middle of the pitch.
A lack of creativity has been well documented and they are crying out for a player with Ozil’s skills.
The Gunners are next in action when they make the trip to the Amex to face Brighton on Tuesday. The Seagulls are one place below in the table having drawn their past three games.
