The reason that Newcastle’s move for Kieran Trippier is stalling ahead of transfer window

Newcastle keen on Kieran Trippier

Three months on from being linked heavily with Manchester United, it seems as though it is Newcastle United that are now leading the race for the Englishman.

A deal could even be completed as early as the first week of January, as the Magpies look to survive relegation after their successful takeover back in October, having so far won just once all season, although they were unlucky to pick up just a point against Manchester United on Monday night.

Now, as per the Telegraph:

Newcastle United have had to alter their transfer plans to include the signing of a new striker but are hoping to complete a deal to bring in England international Kieran Trippier next week as an early statement of intent.

But there are problems too.

Why all transfer deals are in danger of stalling

For Newcastle, there are problems for the January transfer window.

As per the same source, some deals are in danger of stalling due to extortionate prices that are being demanded by clubs, agents and players to join the Newcastle United project.

This is of course to be expected, given that the world now knows just how wealthy they are, but it is nonetheless getting in the way of the club’s attempt to survive this season.

As one senior source at Newcastle put it:

“There is a price for Newcastle and a different one for all other clubs, but we know what to do.”

And, despite reports of confidence that a deal for Trippier will be completed, Spanish outlet AS claims that:

“At Atlético they are still waiting for the offer that has been announced in the English media for weeks”

Will the potential price slow the deal down?
