Leeds United might have to fend off more interest in Raphinha this summer, as Manchester City have now reportedly joined the race to sign him.
Raphinha has enjoyed a productive first season in the Premier League since joining Leeds. He has scored six goals and provided the same amount of assists in 26 appearances in the English top flight. His impact has alerted a number of other clubs in the division.
The €20m fee that Leeds spent on Raphinha seems to have been a bargain. His value has surely risen since then and other clubs could try to prise him away.
A report in February claimed that Liverpool were “blown away” by the former Rennes man. As they look to replenish their attack in the summer, he could be a potential target.
Manchester United were then also linked as they continue their hunt for a right winger. Raphinha’s relationship with Bruno Fernandes from their time together at Sporting CP could help.
But now, another rival has emerged for the Brazilian’s signature. According to SportItalia, Manchester City are also admirers of Raphinha.
City are on course to win the Premier League title this season, which would add to the EFL Cup they have already lifted. They remain in contention for the Champions League as well, having earned the first-leg advantage in their semi-final against Paris Saint-Germain.
They are always looking to strengthen their squad, though, and Raphinha could add further quality to their attack.
The 24-year-old has proven his qualities this season and it is perhaps no surprise that some of the Premier League’s best teams are now looking at him.
Whether City would be able to offer him a regular first-team role straight away is up for question. But he is someone who could strengthen most squads.
The report reminds that Liverpool and Man Utd remain in the hunt to sign Raphinha as well. Leeds have him under contract until 2024 but will be bracing themselves for offers.
City star in shock exit talk
News of City’s interest in another winger coincides with reports that Raheem Sterling faces an uncertain future.
According to Don Balon, Sterling has fallen out with Pep Guardiola after being overlooked for City’s Champions League game against PSG.
In fact, their supposed rift is said to stretch back further than that, with the England winger not happy. Now, he is considering a change of scenery.
Real Madrid have reportedly revived their interest in the former Liverpool forward.
