Bayern CEO Karl-Heinz Rummenigge hints Liverpool are ready to strike for Thiago Alcantara

Liverpool are expected to act on their interest in Bayern Munich midfielder Thiago Alcantara “in the next few days”, according to club CEO Karl-Heinz Rummenigge.

Fresh off winning their maiden Premier League title, The Reds have so far opted for an understated approach to the transfer window.

Squad veterans Adam Lallana and Dejan Lovren both departed. But only Greek internationak Kostas Tsimikas has so far been brought in to bolster the first-team.

Liverpool fan’s fears of stagnation ramped up a notch yesterday after a stale performance resulted in defeat on penalties in the Community Shield.

One option to freshen things up is the potential acquisition of classy Spaniard Thiago.

The 29-year-old has been heavily linked with a move to Anfield. Indeed, one report revealed the possibility that he could be a direct replacement for Georginio Wijnaldum.

Despite the speculation, however, Liverpool are yet to make an official offer, though that could be about to change.

Bayern CEO Rummenigge recently addressed Thiago’s future, telling German outlet Welt am Sonntag (via Goal): “It looks like he will leave us.

“It was important for him that he showed that he can play well in the big games.

“When it comes to that, it’s a finish that hurts a bit. I expect an offer for him in the next few days.”

The hold-up in action had been speculated to be Liverpool’s reluctance to pay Bayern’s price tag of £29m. The idea of paying such a figure for a 29-year-old with 12 months remaining on his contract had not been viewed positively.

That hurdle now appears to have been overcome, with an offer for Thiago expected to be lodged early next week.

Liverpool eyeing up £40m attacking reinforcements

Sarr Watford TEAMtalk

Liverpool are willing to meet the £40m asking price for Watford winger Ismaila Sarr, according to reports.

The Premier League champions have identified Sarr as the perfect competition for their front three. Liverpool have one of the most fearsome attacks around, but do need to increase their depth in that area.

Sarr has become a major target for Liverpool after Watford’s relegation from the Premier League. The 22-year-old impressed against them when Watford became the first team to beat Liverpool in the league last season.

With Liverpool well aware of Sarr’s potential, they are now considering signing the player. Sarr is an international teammate of Sadio Mane, who could help convince him to move to Anfield.
