Hudson-Odoi agrees terms with Dortmund

Callum Hudson-Odoi started off as a fairly popular figure under Thomas Tuchel, being handed a somewhat odd role at right-wing-back in a back-five.

However, Hudson-Odoi then began to feature less and less, with Reece James and Cesar Azpilicueta taking his spot at the back towards the end of 2020/21.

CHO also has a huge amount of quality competition when vying for a spot in the Blues’ front-three as well.

With Romelu Lukaku now Chelsea’s main no.9, all of Timo Werner, Kai Havertz, Mason Mount, Christian Pulisic, Hakim Ziyech and Hudson-Odoi look to be competing for just two or three places, depending if Lukaku is injured/needs a rest.

So, given his lack of minutes at the back end of last season and the fact he did not feature in either of Chelsea’s first three games of this PL campaign, some may have perhaps been expecting Hudson-Odoi to move on this summer.

And, when it was reported over the weekend that Borussia Dortmund were in talks to loan Hudson-Odoi, that did seem to make sense for all parties.

Dortmund have an excellent record of developing young talent and CHO would likely earn more minutes on loan in Germany than at Chelsea this season.

However, an update from Sky’s Max Bielefeld suggests a deal may not happen.

BVB are said to have agreed personal terms with Hudson-Odoi. But Chelsea are currently refusing to let him leave on loan for now.

Bielefeld adds that the situation could change if they get a replacement in, with ‘all eyes on Saul’:

Atletico move ‘goalposts’ on Saul deal

However, a separate update on Monday suggests that a deal for Atletico Madrid’s Saul Niguez is also facing some complications.

The Telegraph are reporting that Chelsea’s bids to sign Jules Kounde and Saul before the transfer window shuts have stalled after both Sevilla and Atletico ‘moved the goalposts’ on both players.

Atletico are said to be having second thoughts over whether or not they will allow Saul to leave on loan and Chelsea are currently unwilling to enter negotiations over a permanent deal for the midfielder:
