Speaking to Arsenal’s official website about Tomiyasu, Mikel Arteta said:
“Takehiro is a strong defender with good experience in Serie A and at international level. He’s a versatile defender with great defensive qualities, high technical ability and composure on the ball. He will be an important member of our squad. We look forward to Takehiro joining up with us when he returns from international duty.”
Technical director Edu echoed the excitement, adding:
“We’re delighted to have signed Takehiro. We’ve been watching him for a while now and we’re pleased that we have reached an agreement with Bologna. He is an important addition to our squad.”
Tomiyasu’s shirt number revealed
It was unclear what number Tomiyasu would inherit at Arsenal, with the Japanese defender sporting the number 14 for Bologna. However, that number is currently occupied by Arsenal club captain Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.
However, it has been revealed that the Japan international will wear the number 18 shirt for the Gunners, last worn by Thomas Partey last season, and fan favourite Nacho Monreal before him.
Takehiro Tomiyasu’s #afc contract is four years with an option for a fifth.
