Everton ‘enraged’ as Man City return to training just days after postponement

Everton have reportedly been left ‘enraged’ after Manchester City returned to training just days after postponing their Premier League fixture amid a number of positive coronavirus cases.

The fixture between the two sides was cancelled on Monday night following a number of positive tests within the City camp, with five players and two staff members testing positive for the virus and leading to the postponement of their trip to Goodison Park.

City announced in a statement that the decision had been made ‘based on strong medical advice’ and that the club’s first-team training ground would be closed for an ‘indeterminate period’, though Everton have now been left ‘enraged’ following a swift return to training for Pep Guardiola’s side.

According to the Mail, the Toffees are yet to hear a ‘full explanation’ from the Premier League as to why the fixture was cancelled despite City having the required 14 available players to fulfil the clash, with the Manchester side’s return to training on Wednesday raising further questions.

City’s first-team players reported to the City Football Academy on Tuesday for emergency tests following the reported outbreak, before being given the all-clear to resume training the following day with the positive cases undergoing a period of self-isolation.

Guardiola’s side are scheduled to face Chelsea in the Premier League on Sunday and that fixture now looks a possibility to go ahead as planned, with Everton meeting West Ham tomorrow evening.
